Maytag Commercial Technology Maxima 4.3 cu. ft. Front Load Washer MHW6000XW and 7.4 cu. ft. Dryer MED6000X Rating Review Description

Update – 25 May 2020

This review was conducted over about 8 years from the summer of 2011 to the summer of 2019. Based on our experience with this Maytag clothes washer and dryer set, we would not recommend purchasing Maytag. There were numerous issues with the design of these machines under very light use: circuit board failures, mechanical control knob issues, and ultimately Maytag no longer produced the replacement parts needed to keep these units working. This resulted in a nation-wide shortage of the parts for this model set.

We paid over $2,000 for these in 2011 which was a lot of money back then. We were told that the additional cost to purchase the ‘Commercial Technology’ and Maytag brand would be worth it and we could expect many years of use from this washer and dryer set. Instead, we ended up with multiple equipment failures.

Below is the original initial review that was provided in July 2011 and updated a year later.

Summary

The Maytag Maxima 4.3 cu. ft. Front Load Washer (MHW6000XW) and 7.4 cu. ft. Dryer (MED6000X) are a matched set offering Maytag Commercial Technology – presumably that means they are commercial grade machines that will be of higher quality and durability than a typical washer and dryer. This page offers a review of this washer and dryer set.

Purchase Price

Maytag washers and dryers are available at many stores. The systems being reviewed here were purchased from Sears. The washer was $940 ($160 off retail) and the dryer was $1045 ($55 off retail). The 5-year extended warranties were $310 and $210 respectively. Due to multiple sales going on, there was an additional $300 savings. So, instead of paying $2,738, we paid about $2200.

Best in Show

According to advertising on the Sears website, the washer is ranked #2 by a “Leading Consumer Magazine.” The Sears advertising states, “…there’s no need to worry about quality. Built with strength and durability, these pairs deliver what customers expect from Maytag brand with Maytag Commercial Technology.”
