CD Drive Not Opening

Problem. On some computers, when the CD drive won’t open, there is no easy way to insert or remove a CD. This is particularly a problem on Apple computers that rely upon the keyboard key to open the CD drive. No button is accessible on the front of the drive to open it in the event of an operating system failure.

Solution. There may be a small hole somewhere near the front of the drive. The hole will be large enough for a straightened paper clip to fit in. When pushing a paper clip into this hole, it is possible to manually eject the drive. Be careful to ensure that the paper clip is being inserted into the correct hole.
