Architectural Bigotry and Intolerance is a phenomenon where people reject any architectural design that they don’t personally like or that doesn’t fit into the sectarian insular homogeneous cookie cutter template of what they believe to be acceptable.
Increasingly it’s become possible for small but vocal and disruptive special interest groups to portray themselves as the “voice of the community” in order to sway local politicians and citizens into endorsing their views. Like a hypnotist, they capture the attention of local media and intimidate anyone who doesn’t agree with their opinions.
This environment makes it very difficult to have a dialog or to foster architectural diversity. Investors and developers are reluctant to risk putting too much energy into municipalities where reasonable projects are met with sometimes irrational resistance. Below is a video discussing this phenomenon. Click here to read more about this topic.
