Payless ShoeSource Northborough Venetian Slip-On Shoe Review

Health > Foot Care and Shoes

Summary. This page provides basic information about the Northborough Slip-On Shoe from Payless ShoeSource. This is a comfortable shoe for casual wear yet they are dressy enough for a more formal occasion.

Price. At $20 on sale or $28 retail, the shoe is a good value.

Advantages. In the winter months it is nice to have a pair of shoes at work that are easy to slip in and out of. The Northborough Venetian Slip-On has a dressy look, without having laces to bother with. All man made materials ensure easy cleaning and durability. This shoe is available in sizes from 5 to 13, making it easy to find just the right size.

Disadvantages. Inserts, such as the Spenco Cross Trainer inserts, should probably be worn with these shoes and any other similar shoe. Other than street running shoes like the New Balance 767 or Skecher Shape-Ups most shoes need additional cushioning.

Product Journal. Below is a product journal by Gregory Johnson offering an initial record of usage. Most recent entries are at the top.

  • Two Years Later. Considering what typical dress shoes have to offer for looks and comfort, these shoes are an excellent value for $20 to $30 and they seemed to hold up well under occasional use. On 5 March 2010, I purchased some Skechers Shape-Ups shoes, for about $100. Though they cost more, they are definitely worth it.
  • Day 4 – Bicycling. These shoes have been breaking in quite nicely. With inserts, and in a size 13 standard width, they are a little snug for me, but still quite comfortable. The firm and supportive, but slightly cushioned sole, make these shoes excellent for bike riding. The smooth surface makes them easy to clean.
  • First Use. The first use of the shoes was surprisingly comfortable. (20080308sa)
  • Purchase. The shoes were purchased in a size 13. Spenco Cross Trainer inserts were used to provide additional padding and cushioning. (20080307fr)
