LibreOffice Calc Spreadsheet Timestamp – Entering The Current Date and Time

A common task when entering data in a spreadsheet is to put the current date and time into a cell.

In some spreadsheet software, when entering the time, the current day’s date is assumed. However, with the LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet program, when you manually type the current time into a cell, the date is assumed to be 30 Dec 1899. So, if you plan to enter the current time and date you will need to type out the entire date and time.

Instead, a better method is to press: SHIFT+CTRL+;

In other words, hold down the shift key and the control key and then press the semi-colon. This will insert the current date and time into the selected cell. It will have the date time format that is configured for the cell.

This method works on Windows computers but may not work properly on Apple computers.
