Remove a Word Added to the Firefox User Dictionary on Apple Computers

Problem. A word was inadvertently added to the Firefox user dictionary while using an Apple computer.

Solution. Follow these steps to correct the problem:

  1. Exit Firefox.
  2. On your computer hard drive, navigate to the Firefox profile folder located in Hard Drive > Users > Your User Name > Library > Application Support > Firefox > Profiles > foldername.default (where the foldername is a random combination of letters and numbers). Use the TextEdit program (found in Applications) to open the persdict.dat file.
  3. Remove any word(s) not supposed to be in the user dictionary and then save the user dictionary file.
