Windows XP USB device can perform faster

Technology

Summary. When plugging in a USB 2.0 device into a USB 1.0 port on a computer, you may see the following notification: “The USB device can perform faster if you connect it ti a Hi Speed USB 2.0 port. For list of available port click here.”

The reason for this notification is because the USB 1.0 port on your computer provides a slower speed than the transfer speed of the USB 2.0 device you are plugging in.

If you have purchased a USB 2.0 expansion card for your computer, you will want to plug the device into the USB 2.0 port for faster performance.

If you click in response to the message, Windows XP will show you a list of available USB port on your computer. However, it isn’t necessary to do this. If you accidentally clicked the message, you can simply cancel or exit the subsequent dialog box that appears.

You can use a USB 2.0 device in a USB 1.0 port. It will simply run slower than if you had the faster port on the computer.

For significantly faster performance, it is recommended that you purchase a USB 2.0 card for your desktop or notebook computer.
