Windows XP Cursor Black Block Box

Summary. Sometimes the windows cursor will change from the “I” icon to a black block or box. This may be an indication that the cursors are missing from the cursors folder. Follow these instructions to fix the problem.

  1. Download the Windows XP Cursors file and expand it.
  2. Place the contents of this folder in your Cursors folder located in the C:\WINDOWS folder.
  3. In Control Panel, choose Mouse and select a cursor design.

These steps may resolve the problem, if they don’t, further searching may be required.
