Improving Air Quality at Home and in the Workplace

Health

Summary. For the few rooms and spaces where you spend the most time during the day, much can be gained by creating the best air quality possible. Begin with the bedroom since that’s where people spend the most time. Air quality is determined by three factors: humidity, smell, purity.

Humidity. The moisture level in a room, home, or office can be maintained at a comfortable level using any number of humidifiers that are available.

Smell. There are a variety of air purifiers and filtration systems available. Some of these have charcoal filters and other technology for removing smells. Ionizing and ozone generating systems help to remove unpleasant smells but they may cover up the cause of odors.

Purity. Air filters can help remove very small particles from the air, reducing allergic reactions. Masks can be purchased from ICanBreathe.com

Freshness and Oxygen. If you live where the outdoor air is fresh, keeping a window open year-round is a good way to help revitalize the air and bring in additional oxygen. Opening a window even a small amount can help circulate, cycle, and refresh the air. In the winter, this can help bring in some humidity.
